My name is Karen and I’m the Director of Marketing for EarthX. We promote awareness and explore sustainable solutions to today’s most pressing environmental challenges through inspiring conversation, creative storytelling and interactive experiences.
This year, we have partnered with the National Geographic Society for Earthx2020, April 22 – 26, 2020 to mark the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. This joint collaboration further increases knowledge through the EarthX experience and inspires people to take positive action for our planet.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken our conferences, film festival and youth programming online. We will first mark the 50th Earth Day Celebration on April 22nd with a special address by Tia Nelson, daughter of Gaylord Nelson, founder of Earth Day. Michael Ulica, President of the National Geographic Society will also take the virtual stage along with some of National Geographic’s most renowned explorers including Enric Sala and Sylvia Earle.
There will also be a series of conferences, a film festival and interactive events for youth that are both entertaining and educational. You can find the full schedule of events here on our website.
Even in the midst of a pandemic, we can achieve a more sustainable world. Although we are limited right now in how we can volunteer out in our communities, we can begin to make a difference within our homes as we shelter in place.
We would love to invite you to participate in our 50 for 50 Challenge. Individuals have an opportunity to pledge in five categories:
1) Earth, to sustain natural resources;
2) Water, to protect water sources;
3) Energy, to conserve energy;
4) Cities, to improve city life; and
5) Climate, to reduce climate change.
Each involves 10 steps, and you can make all 50 in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
It begins with each of us making a conscious commitment to take actions daily that help bring about lasting change. The more who commit, the better our world will be. As we set the example, more organizations, businesses, and governments will be inspired to follow suit.
