My name is Noah and I’m the Marketing Manager at Super Car Guys in Wichita, Kansas.

When the pandemic hit we started looking at ways we could get involved in COVID-19 relief. There are a bunch of charities around that we could support, but we also wanted to find a way to keep our staff on. We don’t want anyone on our team to go without a paycheck and hoped to also be a blessing to our community.

My mom is a nurse, so we started thinking about all of the first responders out there. For them, even the simple things like taking care of an oil change can be a huge annoyance right now. We have a service center that we could utilize, so we realized that offering to change the oil of first responders for free is one way we can help. We’ll take care of the little things so they can take care of the big things.

Right away, though, we knew that we would have to find a way to meet the new safety guidelines because nobody was going to want some random person getting into their car. So we invested in market-tested, industrial strength cleaning products guaranteed to create a germ-free environment without damaging the interior of the vehicle. We also follow careful safety protocols and try to make the process as convenient as possible.

We’ll pick their vehicle up and bring it in for a complimentary oil change. Then we’ll disinfect the vehicle and drop it back off. We’ll work with their schedules, and have even taken cars to their homes or places of employment. We’ve even given rides to work! Our whole direction right now is, “What can we do to help?”

We’ve also been calling our elderly customers to check on them, and have even gone to get groceries for a few of them. We try to support the local restaurants who are still open and help the efforts by our schools to get meals to students.

So why are we doing all of this? In the toughest moments, who you are as a business and who you are as a person is tested. There comes a time where you just need to put others first. That should be the heart of your company at its very core…your community.

I know that we’re never going to return to normal. You don’t experience something like we are right now and just go back to business-as-usual. Through everything in life, you are going to learn a lesson. I hope the lesson we learn from this is to appreciate the things we used to take for granted and recognize that we all need each other.
