My name is Alice Robinson, and I work alongside my friend Re’Gine Green at Positive Reflection Ministries. We help people with utilities, hunger relief, resources, referrals and more. We even have a culinary kid’s chef program, where we teach kids how to cook healthy meals.
I am also a storyteller and inspire people with my messages. My life has not been easy. But I have tried to learn from the tragedies in my life and use that as a way to help others. Making a difference is what I live to do. I don’t know anything else to do..
I thought I had seen it all and experienced it all until this COVID-19 crisis hit. My heart has been broken again in whole new ways. Two weeks ago we purchased 3,000 pounds of food, but as the cars kept coming, we realized there would not be enough. I’ve never seen food insecurity like this. We had to turn people away because we ran out.
There was a lady in a car towards the end of the line, and as she drew closer and closer to where we were, tears began to stream down her face. When she got to us, we had nothing left, and she wept. It broke my heart.
We ended up having her follow us to the store and we bought her some groceries. There was no way we could leave her like that. People are desperate right now. They can’t buy diapers, and are asking for milk for their babies. We are also getting a lot of requests for adult diapers, but they are so scarce. Our rations are just not enough. People get it today, and it’s gone tomorrow. They have to scramble and figure out where the next day’s meal is going to come from. That’s especially true with healthier food items, like protein and produce. It’s just scarce right now.
Sometimes it gets to me that we don’t have enough to feed everyone. But then I remember that God is in control, and he promises to provide for ALL of our needs. I know it looks like we’re in a dark moment right now, but if we just hold on, peace be still, the light will shine again. We just have to hold on to God’s unchanging hand, and believe in Him, trust in Him, he will do, always has done, and will continue to do what He says he will do.
